What is the manga Tokyo Ghoul?
Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese seinen mangaâa category generally aimed at young adultsâwritten by Sui Ishida between 2011 and 2014, comprising 14 volumes. The series was also published in France starting in 2013. Following its success, an anime adaptation was produced in 2014. In that version, you can hear âUnravelâ in the introduction of each of the animeâs 12 episodes. Sequels titled Tokyo Ghoul âA and Tokyo Ghoul:re were released in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Since the anime includes fairly graphic scenes, itâs intended for mature audiences.
The story of Tokyo Ghoul takes place, as its name suggests, in the Japanese city of Tokyo, in a modern era where creatures called ghouls have mysteriously appeared. They feed on human flesh and spread chaos among humans. The story centres on Ken Kaneki, a student who is gravely injured one day during a ghoul attack. To save him, doctors perform a transplant using organs from the ghoul that attacked him. Ken becomes one-eyed and also a human-ghoul hybrid. His unique status pulls him into a bloody conflict between humans who want to eradicate ghouls and ghouls who, ultimately, share unsettling similarities with the human world.

Who sings the song Unravel?
The song Unravel is by Japanese artist TĆru Kitajima, better known as âTKâ. His distinctive voice is what you hear right at the very beginning of Unravel. Itâs also worth noting that heâs a member of the alternative rock band Ling Tosite Sigure, which currently has three members: Masatoshi Nakano on drums, Miyoko Nakamura on bass and vocals, and, of course, TĆru Kitajima on guitar and vocals.
Formed in 2002, Ling Tosite Sigure released several independent singles and albums before signing with a label in 2009. In 2013, their album âIâmperfâectâ was a major success, thanks in particular to two tracks, âAbnormalizeâ and âEnigmatic Feelingâ, which were used as opening theme songs for the anime Psycho-Pass, much like âUnravelâ was for Tokyo Ghoul. When he launched a solo career alongside the band in 2011, TĆru Kitajima released âUnravelâ in 2014 on his album âFantastic Magicâ, which went platinum in Japan. Today, both Ling Tosite Sigure and TĆru Kitajima continue to create new music.
