Handpan Case
Our selection of handpan cases lets you take your instrument anywhere. You can play by a lake or at a friend’s house while keeping your handpan protected by its padded case. Instruments du Monde has selected models designed for instruments measuring 22 in (55 cm) in diameter. Your precious instrument will remain protected from impacts that could knock a note out of tune.
Soft, Padded, or Hard-Shell Case: Which Protection Should You Choose for Your Handpan?

Choosing the right protection depends mainly on how you plan to use your handpan. Handpan protection falls into three main categories. First, a soft case is lightweight and lightly padded, protecting your instrument from scratches and dust while cushioning minor impacts. This makes it ideal for use at home and on short trips. Next, a hard-shell case combines a rigid shell with thick foam for regular travel by car or train. Finally, a handpan flight case adds an inner layer that keeps the instrument completely still, but the case alone weighs 8.8 to 13.2 lb (4 to 6 kg).
Weight matters greatly if you plan to travel on foot. A soft case generally weighs between 1.1 and 3.1 lb (0.5 and 1.4 kg), while a hard case typically weighs between 5.1 and 9.9 lb (2.3 and 4.5 kg). Many players own both: a soft case for everyday use and a hard case reserved for flights and tours.
In this collection, you’ll find a soft case made from durable nylon and flexible EVA plastic, as well as a compression-resistant ABS plastic hard-shell case lined with flexible EVA and shock-absorbing foam.
How to Find the Right Size Case for Your Handpan
To find the right case, start by measuring your handpan’s outer diameter at its widest point, then measure its total height. Handpans range from 16 in to over 27.56 in (40 cm to over 70 cm) in diameter, and their height also varies. The case size is based on the diameter and, when specified, the height. Check the case’s interior dimensions, not just its width. If your instrument falls between two sizes, choose the larger one to avoid compressing the shell. However, a case that is too large presents another problem, since the instrument must fit snugly inside to remain still during transportation.
A case specifically designed for a handpan conforms to the round shape of its shell. The cases in this collection are designed for a 22 in (55 cm) diameter handpan. If you purchased your instrument from our store, you can be certain that you’re making the right choice, as these cases fit every one of our handpans.
