What is the story of One Piece?

One Piece follows Luffy, a young adventurer who dreams of becoming King of the Pirates in a vibrant fictional world. To reach his goal, he must gather a formidable crew, then sail across the perilous Grand Line, a dangerous ocean, in search of the One Piece—a legendary treasure of priceless value that makes whoever possesses it the King of the Pirates. To do this, Luffy and his crew must find the map to Laugh Tale, an island where the One Piece is said to be hidden.

In addition, the World Government (a political organization made up of the majority of the planet's inhabitants) considers pirates a threat to the world. These buccaneers are therefore classified as illegal. The World Government deploys an armed force called the Navy to stop them by placing bounties on their heads, making it difficult for pirates to sail freely. Luffy must constantly fend off the Navy’s attacks as it tries to capture him and his friends, all while dealing with rival pirates like Buggy.

Finally, in this imaginary world, there are Devil Fruits. These mystical fruits give those who eat them special abilities that vary, such as controlling the elemental forces of nature (water, wind, lightning, etc.), transforming into an ancient or mythical creature, or gaining various other powers. It turns out that Luffy accidentally ate a Devil Fruit that now gives his body the properties of rubber. However, there’s a major drawback: anyone who eats one loses the ability to swim—pretty inconvenient for a pirate who spends his life at sea.

What is the origin of the song "Binks' Sake"?

You can hear the song "Binks' Sake" in episode 337 of the anime. Originally, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, came up with the lyrics first before thinking of the melody. He tried to compose it himself, but was dissatisfied with the result, so he finally called on composer Kohei Tanaka, who adapted the music to the existing lyrics.

Kohei Tanaka designed the music to be both sad and joyful. In a major key, as heard in episode 380 of the anime with a piano, it becomes a sea shanty that lifts the spirits and warms the heart. On the other hand, when the same melody is played in a minor key, as with Brook’s favourite instrument, the violin, the piece takes on a much sadder, more melancholic tone. This is one of the many reasons why this song has had such a profound impact on fans of the manga.
