The Middle East isn’t a clearly defined geographic region, although it can include countries such as Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Some of the most iconic instruments from these countries include the Arabic lute known as the oud, the nay (a type of recorder-style flute), the tombak—also called the zarb—a small drum, and the harpika, a very recent string instrument invented in Iran in 2022 and inspired by two other instruments from around the world: the harp and the kalimba.
