Have you recently watched a video of Konstantin Rössler online? Did you love the quality of his compositions and the way he strings notes together as he plays the handpan, his instrument of choice? Want to learn more about this artist’s career?

After discovering Konstantin Rössler by chance in 2022 through his collaborations with Malte Marten, another handpan player, I was immediately captivated by the melodies of this talented young artist. So I looked into his work and kept up with what he’s been doing. In this article, I’ll share what I’ve learned.

Through this article, you will learn:

  • How Konstantin Rössler discovered the handpan
  • The percussionist’s discography

In other words, you’re about to step into the meditative sound world of an artist who beautifully blends intuition with melodic composition on his hang drum.

Now, let’s look at the early days of Konstantin Rössler’s career.

How did Konstantin Rössler start playing the handpan?

Originally from the town of Spittal an der Drau in Austria, Konstantin Rössler developed a real passion for music as a teenager, especially percussion. He first learned to play the drums, though years later he would say he felt something was missing from his musical growth. In early 2019, while watching videos on YouTube, he discovered the handpan completely by chance, and it was love at first sight. He bought one a few months later, in May 2019. Before long, playing the handpan felt like an obvious path, and it shaped the rest of his life.

The years that followed confirmed Konstantin Rössler’s instinct to devote himself to the handpan. In 2023, he chose to become a full-time musician, working as a self-employed artist and focusing exclusively on playing and teaching handpan. He began performing across Europe, delivering concerts that are largely improvised. At the same time, he shares his know-how through hang drum workshops and lessons, both in person and online. Rates range from $50 an hour to $650 for a full day with the artist.

When it comes to his style, for Konstantin Rössler, the handpan is much more than an instrument: it is "a sound space filled with possibilities," and everything he plays is born in the present moment. That’s why, during his concerts or performances on his YouTube channel, which has over 70,000 subscribers, he mainly explores sound combinations guided by intuition, much like Malte Marten, with whom he has already collaborated. Entirely improvised, his performances can be gentle and meditative at times, or more rhythmic and intense at others, depending on the energy he feels in the moment. That’s also why his concerts are seen as truly unique experiences, since no two are ever the same. To get a feel for the style Konstantin Rössler has developed, watch one of his popular videos called "Between Shadow and Light":

What is the discography of this Austrian hang drum player?

Though still considered a relatively new artist in the handpan community, Konstantin Rössler already has a solid discography. His first album was released in 2022 and is titled "Before You Became." It features 13 tracks composed solely on the handpan, either solo (Eywa, My Place in the World, or Beyond Space and Time) or as a duo with his friend Malte Marten. He also used Marten’s home studio to record this first album.

Konstantin Rössler’s second album arrived in 2024. He named it "Mystical Reflections" and extended the experience of the first album by continuing this meditative sound exploration. At the same time, he teamed up again with Malte Marten to produce an EP called "The Freedom We Feel," made up of four duet pieces. You can also hear him on Malte Marten’s YouTube channel in the track "Higher Calling (1111 Hz)," released on October 1, 2024, which has been a major success, with over 8 million views at the time of writing.

In 2025, he teamed up with Hungarian artist Heidi Albert to co-produce the album "Hungarian Poems in an Austrian Forest," a project that skillfully blends handpan with Hungarian poetry. This album features 11 tracks that breathe new life into classic Hungarian poems through the handpan’s airy tones. That same year, Rössler also released a solo album titled "A Whisper from the Universe." It includes eight new tracks and invites listeners into a timeless, contemplative experience.

It’s also worth noting that Konstantin Rössler released several other notable works, such as the single "Galactic Bonfire" in 2023, a collaboration with producer MiDN8 that blends electronic sounds with traditional handpan. He also released the singles "Light and Darkness" and "Sparks To Nowhere" that same year, further proving his desire to keep pushing his instrument’s possibilities.
