The 60 spots are split between two chalets—early-nighters and late-nighters—so be sure to bring a sleeping bag and pillow; pets aren’t allowed. The program includes morning hatha yoga with Amélie F-Roy, a beginner workshop led by Francis Leclerc, an intermediate workshop led by Pierre-Olivier Bolduc, a slackline session, and a group photo at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Improvised jams around the campfire keep the friendly vibe going. A full package with dorm lodging and meals included guarantees total immersion. Bring your handpan and join us for three days of musical sharing.
Transform your mind with the handpan, just like coloring
Like adult coloring, which focuses your attention and quiets intrusive thoughts, the handpan invites you into a therapeutic sound adventure through its captivating vibrations. Developed by Felix Rohner and Sabrina Schärer in Switzerland in 2000, this idiophone instrument—two welded, convex steel shells—features a 1:2:3 tuning (fundamental, octave, fifth), creating a naturally balanced sound that’s easy on the ears. Each hand-hammered tone field on handcrafted models, such as those from Instruments du Monde, responds differently depending on where you strike, creating an intuitive musical landscape that’s accessible even to beginners. In meditation, yoga, or sound massage, these elemental waves support mental well-being, helping your mind sync with soothing frequencies to reduce stress and anxiety. Unlike traditional instruments that can take years to master, the handpan asks only for your presence in the moment, turning every session into a calming ritual. Whether you hear it live, on CD, or in a video, this instrument blends modernity and tradition for immediate well-being. Order your handpan and treat yourself to a moment of sonic calm.
Explore exotic scales to enrich your musical style
Handpan makers now offer original tunings inspired by world music, such as Turkish makam scales, Arabic maqams, and the natural modes of Indian Carnatic music. These exotic models expand your creative palette beyond classic pentatonic scales. By choosing a Turkish rast tuning, you’ll discover microtonal intervals that make your playing deeply expressive. Hijaz or saba maqams can create meditative atmospheres, while bhairav or yaman scales enrich melodic patterns. Each tuning is a world of its own, handcrafted by brands such as Yishama and Pandium. Dedicated tutorials, available online, help you understand these unique harmonic structures. Even a first-time player can immerse themselves in these sounds by practicing targeted exercises and following tutorials with graphic scores. Explore exotic scales to enrich your style and order a handpan with rare tunings to develop your musical creativity today.
Adopt the term pantam, a mix of pan and Indian ghatam
Before “handpan” became widely used, an Israeli distributor popularized the name “pantam” in 2002, a fusion of “pan” (steelpan) and “ghatam” (a clay drum from southern India). Italian craftsman Marco Della Ratta began experimenting with his own prototypes in 2003, inspired by the ethnic mix that gave rise to the Hang. Victor Levinson adopted this term in 2014 for his SPB, while Bellart and Spacedrum incorporated it into their collections. The “pantam” evokes the cultural hybridization that gave rise to the handpan: convex shape, melodic chords, and intuitive playing. Choose a handpan or a pantam today and explore these terminological and musical nuances, reflecting a constantly evolving hybrid tradition.
