Infinite Handpan

Master the art of handpan harmony for instant personal well-being

The handpan is an idiophone made from two welded, nitrided steel half-shells, invented in Switzerland in 2000 by Felix Rohner and Sabrina Schärer. Its convex shape lets each hand strike produce a note whose tone and sustain vary depending on where you play, a phenomenon explained by impedance acoustics. Beginners and pros alike love its intuitive feel, with no “wrong notes” and rich harmonics. Each note blends three frequencies (fundamental, octave, and fifth), creating a balanced sound spectrum that naturally encourages relaxation. In meditation sessions or art-therapy workshops, the handpan can feel deeply immersive—like lullabies, birdsong, or ocean waves. At Instruments du Monde, each instrument is hand-tuned and designed to deliver optimal tonal balance for maximum ease and calm. Whether you play solo or in a group, the handpan brings harmony to your space and your mind. Order your handpan now!

Discover the story behind the arm-wrestling match between Cédric and David Charrier

At the Handpan Festival in Sauvian, nicknamed “Panradis,” founder Cédric, a 43-year-old entrepreneur and father of two daughters, offered David Charrier a performance fee. Charrier preferred to play for free and won the arm-wrestling match, refusing any payment. Since the very first edition on September 19–21, 2014, 800 people have shown up, and today more than 7,500 festivalgoers come to enjoy this venue with permanent infrastructure (drinking water and electricity). Cédric set up a permanent stage where didgeridoo and jaw harp workshops are also held, while a Zen garden welcomes 20 practitioners focused on the seven chakras for Thai massages, lithotherapy, and reflexology. You can meet handpan makers, jewelry artisans, and enjoy a wide variety of food options. David Charrier chose passion over money, capturing the festival’s spirit of sharing. Improve your dexterity with targeted exercises

To progress quickly on the handpan, it’s essential to add hand-coordination and instrument-specific dexterity exercises to your routine. Online courses and workshops offer simple drills, such as fast alternation between the index, middle, and ring fingers or combining simultaneous strikes on the “ding” and the outer dimples. These movements sharpen dynamic control and build a more precise touch. Trained teachers also share tips on posture, core alignment, and shoulder relaxation—key to practicing without fatigue. You’ll learn to sync your breathing with your strikes for smoother flow, build melodies by combining different pentatonic intervals, and structure your playing around simple rhythmic patterns. Hand coordination and dexterity exercises are essential for developing speed and fluidity. By practicing regularly, you’ll gain confidence, musicality, and technical ease. Order your handpan today and add these methods to your practice to see meaningful progress fast.

Explore Pang Strings and their post-Hang applications

After Hang production ceased in 2013, PANArt launched a new family of instruments, the “Pang strings,” incorporating specially nitrided steel wires to bring a fresh melodic dimension. These strings, installed on various prototypes such as the Gubal and Gudu, offer harmonic textures reminiscent of a harp or sitar. Musicians can blend percussion with sustained tones for immersive compositions. This concept, built on the same alloy used for the Hang, has inspired some makers to create hybrid handpans that combine note fields and strings, opening up new sonic horizons. Discover these innovations by purchasing a handpan or Pang instrument and push your creative boundaries.
