Discover how the Gubal influenced the evolution of the handpan
The first instrument to inspire the handpan was the Hang, created by Swiss maker PANArt in 2000. For nearly 13 years, PANArt’s artisans refined the Hang’s materials and acoustics to produce exceptional instruments. But in 2013, PANArt stopped manufacturing the Hang to focus on other sound creations such as the Gubal and the HangBal, both closely inspired by the Hang concept. Meanwhile, percussionists around the world were increasingly eager to own a Hang of their own. Other makers began building instruments identical in shape and feel, and the name “handpan” quickly became the go-to term. Interestingly, the handpan’s evolution also benefited from PANArt’s acoustic breakthroughs developed for the Gubal. Take part in handpan workshops led by professionals
Although the handpan is still fairly exotic and not widely known by the general public, it’s surprising how many local workshops and activities are already being offered by passionate players who simply want to share their love for these two metal shells shaped like flying saucers. The handpan is perfect for this because it’s intuitive and highly approachable, even for beginners. As a result, it’s not uncommon for someone who has never played music before to walk away from a one-hour introductory workshop playing a few catchy tunes on their handpan. With the number of workshops constantly increasing, it’s easier than ever to get familiar with this melodic percussion instrument. Order your instrument and sign up for a workshop today.
The handpan is an effective way to relieve stress
It’s widely recognized that music can provide a moment of calm and help relieve stress, and many studies support this idea. Some research even suggests that music can sometimes rival the effects of anti-stress medication in a completely natural way. What sets the handpan apart is the truly distinctive sound it produces—often described as relaxing, dreamy, or ethereal by players who sometimes struggle to put it into words. It’s no surprise, then, that the handpan has become a staple in many wellness practices. Let its soothing tones carry you away and add the handpan to your relaxation routine for deeper well-being.
Unleash your boundless creativity with this instrument
Why is the handpan so successful on the international scene? Simply because it lets you explore and reveal your creativity anytime. You’ll often see videos of handpan players creating music for 20, 30, or even 40 minutes at a time. Don’t assume the percussionist has memorized the entire piece—of course not. They’re improvising, guided by their instincts and emotions in the moment. That’s why some musicians love taking their instrument to quiet corners of nature to find inspiration. They tap into the creativity within and then share it with the rest of the world. That’s exactly what the handpan philosophy is all about. Order yours and join this unique musical adventure.
