Flower of Life Singing Bowl

Discover the influence of the Shang dynasty on singing bowls

Tibetan singing bowls are naturally associated with Tibet because of their name. However, their true origins are much more complex. In fact, some researchers trace similar instruments back to the Shang dynasty (16th–11th centuries BCE), where objects that closely resemble Tibetan bowls may have influenced them. One example is the nao, a bronze bell used in religious rituals. These bells were struck with a wooden mallet, just like singing bowls today. Although this connection has not yet been proven by archaeological research, the striking similarity of the nao may still echo through the vibrations of the Tibetan bowl. Perhaps in the years ahead, a clearer link between Chinese and Tibetan musical culture will be established. In the meantime, explore this tradition by acquiring your own singing bowl.

Discover the Tibetan bowl and its Mongolian origins dating back more than 5,000 years

While the Shang dynasty remains a likely possibility for the origins of the singing bowl, another theory points to shamans from the steppes of Mongolia around 5,000 years ago. According to this theory, metal bowls were first used as simple kitchen utensils, before shamans found their tones compelling enough to incorporate them into healing rituals. These spiritual objects were later introduced to Tibet and Nepal, where blacksmiths refined the manufacturing techniques to create the resonant pieces we know today. It is thanks to the Nepalese and Tibetans in particular that we have the famous seven-metal alloy, producing vibrations found nowhere else. Explore this authentic, centuries-old instrument and adopt one for yourself today.

Discover the secrets of meditation with a Tibetan rock crystal singing bowl

Traditionally used in lithotherapy, quartz is known as an amplifier, enhancing the qualities of other stones. With singing bowls, quartz is often chosen for the calming, relaxing character of its vibrations. That’s why this mineral was selected, among many others, for crafting this type of instrument. In 2016, a study at the University of San Diego found that using quartz crystal singing bowls can significantly improve focus and reduce stress. This makes it an ideal tool for meditation practitioners, as well as curious beginners who want an easy way to quiet the mind and elevate everyday life. Let the vibrations of this instrument guide you towards greater serenity—get one for yourself today.

Discover how the frequency and musical notes of singing bowls harmonise your chakras

The frequency your Tibetan quartz crystal bowl is tuned to has a major impact on its energetic feel. While the debate between 440 and 432 Hz continues, there is broad agreement around the musical notes. Each major chakra, as described in Hinduism, is linked to a planet in the solar system, a day of the week, and a musical note. For example, C is assigned to Muladhara, the root chakra, which is the foundation of all energy work. Take the time to choose the frequency and musical note that best match your intention. You’ll be able to approach your energy goals with greater precision and harmonise your practice in the best possible way. Select your singing bowl from our selection now.
