Do you have one or more lithotherapy stones and are wondering how to purify and recharge them using a Tibetan singing bowl? Why is it important to take care of your crystals by clearing them first and then recharging them with energy? When does it make sense to cleanse the minerals used for this practice with a musical instrument?

Having practiced lithotherapy for over 10 years and owning numerous singing bowls, I’ve used them to effectively purify and recharge my stones on many occasions. Let me guide you so you can use your Tibetan singing bowl confidently and correctly.

To purify and recharge lithotherapy stones, place them inside or near the Tibetan singing bowl, then make the bowl sing with a mallet for a certain amount of time.

After reading this entire article, you will be able to:

  • Understand why it’s important to care for your stones
  • Know the key moments and frequency of purification and recharging with a Tibetan bowl
  • Learn the different effective methods for caring for your crystals using this Asian musical instrument

Your labradorites, obsidians, moonstones, amethysts, tourmalines, citrines, and quartz will never again be saturated with negative energy. You’ll be able to enjoy all their benefits to the fullest.

Now, let’s explore this fascinating topic together.

Why purify and recharge stones using a singing bowl?

Lithotherapy stones are known to support physical and mental well-being through the vibrations they naturally produce. Each mineral generates a different resonance, resulting in a wide variety of effects. The main issue is that when these stones are in contact with a person, they tend to absorb negative energies and vibrations like a sponge—energies we can all generate throughout our lives. Over time, the stones can lose their effectiveness. That’s why it’s important to regularly cleanse and energize your lithotherapy stones so they retain their full potential.

The Tibetan bowl, for its part, has the amazing ability to purify through its sounds. When you make it sing, the vibrations penetrate the stones and help release the negative energy they’ve absorbed—essentially “resetting” them. And with the same tool, you can also recharge your crystals to boost their properties. It’s a real time-saver, because a Tibetan singing bowl is one of the few methods that can handle both cleansing and recharging in one go. That’s why it’s such a great instrument for caring for your lithotherapy stones.

When should you use your Tibetan bowl to cleanse and recharge your crystals, jewelry, and pendulums?

It is recommended that you purify and recharge your minerals regularly, ideally once a week and, at most, once a month, so they don’t lose their properties completely. However, you should take care of your stones right away if any of the following situations arise:

  • You’ve just purchased new stones, whether new or secondhand. Other people have inevitably handled them, and it’s best to start with a clean slate.
  • You’ve experienced a particularly painful or traumatic event such as a serious illness, a death, losing a job, or a breakup while wearing the mineral.
  • You’ve lent your crystals to someone you know. Again, you can’t know what that person has been through, so it’s a sensible precaution.
  • After an energy treatment using lithotherapy stones. In this case, they have inevitably accumulated a large amount of negative energy.
  • You feel disturbances while meditating with your crystals.
  • You simply feel a strong need to do so.

Some jewelry or divination pendulums contain lithotherapy stones, and they can be energetically cleansed with a singing bowl just as easily as loose crystals.

How can you cleanse lithotherapy stones using your musical instrument?

To release any trapped negativity, it’s essential to know how to make your Tibetan singing bowl sing. The method is simple: strike the bowl with a firm, clean tap using a mallet to start the vibration, then gently rub the outer rim in a smooth, steady motion without going too fast. Watch the video below to help you learn the correct technique.

Practice this several times with your singing bowl to get comfortable with it. Once you’ve fully mastered the technique, place a stone inside the bowl and make it sing while moving clockwise for about 20 seconds. You can either hold the instrument in your hand or place it on a cushion designed for Tibetan bowls. Then, finish by striking the bowl one last time, and wait for the sound to fade completely before removing the crystal. And that’s it—you’ve just purified and recharged your stone. All that’s left is to repeat the process with the others.

If your bowl is large enough or your stones are relatively small, you can place several inside at once, such as a necklace or bracelet. However, some lithotherapy minerals cannot be combined and are incompatible with each other, so be careful not to mix them. If you’re unsure, place only one type of stone inside the bowl. Watch this video, which demonstrates the technique I’ve just described.

Did you hear the crackling sound in this video? That’s the bracelet shifting due to the vibrations produced inside the instrument. If you have a large singing bowl (more than 6 in (15 cm) in diameter), the intense vibrations can be too strong for your mineral. Depending on its hardness, the stone may crack or break, which would be a shame. In that case, set the Tibetan bowl on a cushion designed for this purpose or, if you don’t have one, on a clean cloth. Place the crystals around the instrument and make it sing—still moving clockwise—but this time for about one minute. With this technique, you can purify and recharge your stones without putting them at risk. This method is demonstrated in the following video:

Are some Tibetan singing bowls more effective than others for caring for minerals?

When it comes to purification and energy cleansing, large singing bowls aren’t necessarily the most useful. In fact, the most effective instruments for this practice are small ones that produce much higher-pitched sounds, which are particularly effective at dispelling negative energies. Therefore, I recommend using small bowls no larger than 6 in (15 cm) in diameter. In addition, consult this guide if you want to know everything about the properties of Tibetan bowls according to their size.

If you have a quartz crystal singing bowl, you can certainly use it to purify and recharge your stones, though in my experience metal alloy bowls deliver even better results.
