Have you spent hours playing the video game Minecraft created by Notch, letting your creativity run wild among its minimalist, blocky graphics? Did you fall in love with the game’s soundtrack, largely composed by C418? Here, we’re inviting you to relive your best moments by learning the Sweden melody with our kalimba sheet music and tablature for 21-tine kalimbas.

Don’t forget your pickaxe, and let’s head out together to discover this Minecraft song for thumb piano.

Check your instrument’s setup before you start

The song Sweden was originally composed in B minor. However, your 21-key kalimba is most likely tuned to C or F major. That means you’ll need to make a small change to play this melody correctly. It’s very easy to do: simply change all the C and F notes to C# and F#, respectively. You should end up with a configuration similar to the image below:

Next, it’s also essential to know how to read thumb piano sheet music. Without this skill, you won’t be able to accurately play what the music is asking you to do.

What is the video game Minecraft?

Minecraft is a sandbox adventure video game, meaning a building game where the player has complete freedom, officially released on November 18, 2011. Development began in 2009 at Mojang, founded by Markus Persson under the pseudonym Notch. In 2014, Microsoft acquired the studio, and Markus Persson later stepped away from the game’s ongoing development. Today, Minecraft is available on PC, Android, iOS, and Xbox One, and it’s an international success with over 200 million copies sold worldwide.

Minecraft invites players to immerse themselves in a world made up of randomly generated cubes, or more accurately, procedurally generated cubes. Different materials are created, along with animals and even hostile skeletons. Players must then try to survive by using their pickaxes to build structures or objects for protection. For example, they can craft armor or a sword. The difficulty level increases as time passes. However, there are other game modes such as Creative, which lets players build freely, much like Lego games, or Adventure mode, which prohibits the destruction or creation of new blocks. There is no real end to this game, which has virtually infinite content, limited only by the imagination of the players.

Who is C418, the composer of the music for Sweden?

C418 is the pseudonym of Daniel Rosenfeld, a German composer born on May 9, 1989, in Chemnitz. He’s the main contributor behind the music and sound effects in Minecraft. In the 2000s, C418 learned to compose using Ableton Live, introduced to him by his brother. Working as a freelancer since 2006, he began contributing to the soundtracks of various small games through a forum called "TIGSource."

It was on this forum that he met Markus Persson, who asked him to collaborate on his future video game Minecraft. When the game was released in 2011, he released an album called "Minecraft – Volume Alpha" which included 24 tracks from the game, with Sweden as track 18. Since then, Daniel Rosenfeld has continued to release albums regularly, still working independently in the video game industry.

Play Sweden on a kalimba with exceptional acoustics

Minecraft is a game that left its mark on an entire generation and continues to be played and celebrated more than a decade after its release. Many people have enjoyed exploring these randomly generated virtual worlds for the simple pleasure of creating, or for the challenge of surviving in a hostile universe. The game’s high-quality soundtrack has echoed in players’ minds for thousands of hours, naturally sparking the desire to recreate it on kalimba. Now that you have our sheet music, you’ll have all the time you need to practice and perfect it.

However, an instrument’s acoustics are a key factor and will strongly shape how refined your melody sounds. With a low-end model, you’ll never get a result that’s truly satisfying to listen to. That’s why Instruments du Monde strongly recommends this thumb piano, designed for clear resonance and professional-level performance.
