Handpan Stand
With a handpan stand, your instrument sits at the right height, whether you prefer to play seated or standing. Instruments du Monde offers adjustable stands, wood-fibre stands, and tripods that hold your instrument while leaving your hands free to move from one note to the next. Once placed on its stand, your handpan will often resonate more freely than when resting against your thighs. You’ll be able to play for long periods while keeping your back straight and your arms relaxed. Between playing sessions, it will remain stable and protected from falls.
Why place your handpan on a stand rather than on your lap?

A stand allows the handpan’s resonance to come through more fully, making it sound louder and clearer than when played on your lap. When the instrument rests on your thighs, your body and clothing dampen some of its vibrations. In addition, after a long session, your legs can become numb and your posture can tense up, whereas a stand keeps the instrument stable with no risk of it slipping, falling, or getting scratched on the floor.
A stand is also useful if you want to play while standing, play two or more handpans, record your music, or access bottom notes that your knees would otherwise block.
Is one stand suitable for all handpans, regardless of their diameter and weight?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases: most stands adjust to accommodate diameters from 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24 in). However, you should check the diameter of your handpan and the stand’s weight capacity before purchasing. A handpan weighs several kg (several lb), and each strike adds force, so a heavy or particularly wide instrument will require a wider base to prevent it from tipping over.
If your handpan has bottom notes, make sure the stand’s legs or arms do not block access to them. A good stand always supports the instrument without pressing against its notes.
