A symbol of life itself—fall in love with this handpan engraved with a mandala
Found across many ancient civilizations, “mandala” is a term that comes from India and means “circle” in Sanskrit. It’s a symbol made up of circular patterns—often with intricate geometric shapes—used in Buddhist spiritual practice to support meditation, harmony, and emotional balance. On this 10-note handpan tuned to D Kurd, a stunning mandala is engraved from the centre across both the upper and lower shells of this percussion instrument. With its rich golden finish, this model is made from stainless steel for long-lasting, soothing tones that encourage relaxation and calm. Bring sound and visual art together with this handpan with a mandala design.

The Hang: from Caribbean music to Swiss innovation
Long before they began designing and creating new musical instruments, the Swiss company PANArt specialized in making and tuning a very specific instrument: the Caribbean steel drum, or steelpan—a fully metal percussion instrument traditionally made from repurposed barrels. Captivated by the steel drum’s sound, Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer focused on offering the best possible models by carefully selecting materials. It was only with the arrival of Reto Weber, who suggested creating an entirely new metal instrument, that PANArt began manufacturing the Hang, the instrument that would later inspire the handpan, using techniques mastered over years of steel drum craftsmanship. Discover the handpan experience with an instrument rich in history and tone.
Discover the handpan, an instrument that is necessarily handmade
Did you know it’s completely impossible to produce a high-quality handpan without human hands? The characteristic sounds of the handpan are so complex that a craftsman must use a hammer to precisely tune every note. Some manufacturers have tried stamping handpans out with hydraulic presses, but the acoustic results are very poor. You’ll notice that on every handpan sold by Instruments du Monde, there are unique hammer marks on the handpan’s tone fields. In practice, it takes thousands of strikes on the metal shell to create a great handpan. That’s your guarantee of an instrument that’s manually tuned and truly handcrafted. Order your handpan and dive into this one-of-a-kind musical adventure.
Why the handpan has become a classic in meditation centres
Designed between 1999 and 2000, the handpan wasn’t originally intended to become an instrument used in wellness practices. Still, once you’ve heard the sound of this percussion instrument, it’s easy to see why it found its way into these spaces. The tones a handpan produces are incredibly gentle, inviting calm and deep relaxation. So it’s hardly surprising that this small, flying-saucer-shaped instrument has captured the attention of meditation and yoga enthusiasts, as well as sound therapy practitioners. Playing just a few notes can quickly create a sense of peace—an effect supported by several scientific studies suggesting a drop in blood pressure. Treat yourself to this unique sound journey and let the handpan enrich your meditation and wellness sessions.
Express your creativity at musical gatherings
Musical gatherings are a great way to discover new instruments and meet people who share your interests. When it comes to handpans, the number of events dedicated solely to them has grown significantly in recent years, alongside their rising popularity. This wider reach is a real advantage because you can more easily find festivals and concerts near you to share your passion. Plus, since the handpan is lightweight and easy to carry, you can bring your instrument along and compose during these events. It’s also a great opportunity to learn new rhythms and striking techniques from the experts who attend. Join this inspiring community—get your handpan today.
