If you want to explore the exotic sounds of Africa with a thumb piano made from solid camphor wood, choose the Gecko K17CAP kalimba. This model also features a beautiful rounded shape for a more comfortable grip. Take a look at all the kalimbas available for sale in our store.

Wood carefully selected for the creation of the instrument

Beyond woodworking, Sébastien is also a music lover who’s always striving for perfection. After testing and building many kalimbas in different wood species, he ultimately chose okoumé—an exotic wood from the Congo Basin in Africa. Along with its outstanding acoustic qualities for kalimba, okoumé features beautiful grain and striking natural figuring that’s a feast for the eyes. It also comes from a region of Africa where traces of the earliest thumb pianos date back more than 3,000 years. It’s no coincidence that Sébastien selected this wood to craft an exceptional kalimba.

Support French craftsmanship by purchasing this thumb piano.

Sébastien wasn’t always a cabinetmaker. Just a few years ago, he worked in the automotive mechanics industry before retraining in cabinetmaking, his true passion. By choosing this kalimba, you’re directly supporting Sébastien’s mission to grow his craft business and build a sustainable living for himself and his family.

An instrument that is finally accessible to everyone, no musical training required

It’s no coincidence that the kalimba is also known as the finger piano. Each of the instrument’s steel tines corresponds to one single musical note, just like on a regular piano. That means when you press a tine, you get the note you want—no guesswork. All you have to do is follow simplified sheet music that shows you the order of the keys, and you’ll be playing beautiful melodies right away.
