Explore the Japanese Akebono scale with this 9-note handpan!
Add a touch of the exotic to your playing by choosing the Akebono scale for your future handpan
The notes found in the Akebono scale evoke mysterious soundscapes that feel both majestic and light. Inspired by traditional Japanese music, Akebono uses a pentatonic structure (5 different notes spread across multiple octaves), which makes it incredibly approachable by removing harsh dissonance when two or more notes are played at once. Improvisation feels smoother and more intuitive, so beginners naturally gravitate toward it. In terms of sensation, the Akebono handpan, whose structure is derived from the Miyako-bushi scale, delivers a deep, almost transcendent tone—perfect for guiding the player or listener into a meditative, contemplative state. With 9 high-quality stainless steel notes, you’ll have everything you need to enjoy truly inspiring musical moments. Add this handpan to your cart today.

Join the regular handpan meetups in Berlin with your portable instrument
The Pangonia Handpan Festival is the culmination of monthly gatherings organized by a passionate Berlin community that meets for meetups, drinks, and learning workshops in different locations throughout the German capital. Each edition offers 11 concerts and 7 workshops covering playing techniques, musical qigong, craftsmanship, and sound healing, led by 14 international artists such as Serà, Tom Vaylo, and Mayiia. In early 2023, the community welcomed more than 100 participants to a four-day gathering, coordinated by 25 volunteers and accompanied by vegan food stands and local snacks. Thanks to its light weight and compact size, the handpan is easy to carry on the U-Bahn or by bike, ready to spark spontaneous jam sessions in courtyards or along the banks of the Spree. The handpan slips into any bag for your musical get-togethers, letting you explore new sounds at every meetup. Grab your handpan and experience Berlin’s musical buzz today.
Experience brain entrainment through the handpan for your well-being
Neuroscientists call the process by which the brain synchronizes with external vibrations “entrainment,” and that’s exactly what the handpan, invented in 2000 by Félix Rohner and Sabrina Schärer in Bern, offers. This idiophone instrument, composed of two welded nitrided or stainless steel shells, radiates sound in a full 360° field through its three-part tuning (fundamental, octave, fifth). Unlike ultrasound, which only dogs can hear, the frequencies emitted by the handpan are beneficial to humans: they encourage physical relaxation and mental clarity. Used in sound therapy, art therapy, and yoga, it can be incorporated into sound massage sessions or receptive meditation workshops. Practitioners often recommend listening to videos or live recordings to recreate the hushed atmosphere of a meditation centre at home. Available from Instruments du Monde, each instrument is hand-tuned and offered at a price below the average for online stores. Synchronize your mind with the vibrations of the handpan and order today for an exceptional sound experience.
Support the creation of Handpan Community United
In September 2020, the handpan community founded Handpan Community United (HCU) to protect makers and musicians from legal action by PANArt. Now with over 1,000 members, the association is working with the law firm Bird & Bird to defend the right to produce and exhibit these instruments. After winning its case against Ayasa in the Netherlands in early 2020, HCU launched a crowdfunding campaign in mid-October 2020 to finance legal fees and support legal action. The goal is to ensure that concerts, workshops, and online videos can continue without fear of injunctions. This international movement also advocates for the dissemination of the tuning secrets of the Pang alloy, developed by PANArt in the 1990s. By participating, you are helping to preserve diversity and support new manufacturers. Order your handpan to join the fight and make your voice heard.
Pair your handpan with yoga sessions to enjoy the synergy of these two practices
In fact, it’s increasingly common to hear handpans in various tunings during yoga classes led by certified instructors. This Swiss instrument fits seamlessly into the practice, as its acoustic vibrations are widely loved for their soothing, relaxing qualities. As a result, it’s only natural to combine a handpan with breathing exercises or postures to enhance the positive effects of a yoga session. The idea is to strengthen the connection between body and mind while clearing the mind of thoughts by focusing on the pleasant sounds and melodies produced by the handpan.
