Tibetan Singing Bowl for the Throat Chakra
Treat yourself to a Tibetan singing bowl for the throat chakra to accompany your work with Vishuddha, the chakra that Hindu tradition locates in the throat and associates with both speech and listening. These crystal bowls are tuned to the note G at either 432 or 440 hertz. Play them, then add your voice to their sound to hum or recite the HAM mantra. Each session will become a moment to finally take the time to listen to yourself.

How do you use a Tibetan singing bowl for the throat chakra during a session with your voice and breath?

For a session, sit with your back straight, the bowl resting flat on your palm or a cushion and the mallet in your other hand. Take three slow, deep, mindful breaths before making the first sound. Gently strike the rim of the bowl or make it sing with a steady circular motion without forcing it, while imagining a blue light at your throat. The bowls in this collection are made of crystal, so a rubber or silicone mallet prevents squeaking.
The voice is central to this chakra: singing or humming along with your Tibetan singing bowl for the throat chakra works well for practicing with Vishuddha. You can also add two breathing techniques associated with this center: ujjayi, which makes your breathing audible by slightly narrowing the throat, and bhramari, the humming bee breath. After each sound, listen as the note fades into silence, then begin again.
Focused work on a single chakra takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Once the session is over, it is recommended that you remain still for another minute.
If you want to perform a sound massage and are not pregnant, place the bowl on the upper chest near the neck, never directly on the throat, and always away from the ears. According to tradition, singing stimulates this chakra without risk. Do not rub or strike the throat.
Where does tradition place Vishuddha, the throat chakra, and what does it associate with it?
In the Hindu yoga tradition, Vishuddha is the fifth chakra of the seven major chakras of the human body, immediately after the heart chakra and before the third eye chakra. At the level of the larynx, where speech begins, it is located near the spine at the base of the neck, with its focal point in the hollow of the throat.
This chakra is connected to hearing and speaking, linking it to both the ears and the mouth. Hindu tradition also associates Vishuddha with the note G.
